Those were the days man...
Strange how your standards change over the years?
Well do I remember my first Principal's address in my secondary school, where the (then) Principal Mr Tham Tuck Meng intoned, "At primary school, 85, 95 marks is the norm; in secondary school you'll be glad with a 55."
Which was partly why I smiled to myself when I heard Mrs Crystal Cheong mention to us Apolloians during the first EC-meet-students session that "if you haven't gotten your first failure so far, believe me, you will get your first Fs."
Similarly I remembered crying (bless me, I was SUCH a perfectionist then) when I couldn't finish a Math Test, which I subsequently got 86% for. Like, DUH! How sick can you get! Whereas I compare with the standards I have now and say "I'll be glad with a pass"!
"Gone were the days when we were disappointed with not getting full marks," said one of my close friends.
"Like, DUH! You know, I used to cry about not finishing a test! Whine about missing out on a Gold!
"Now?? I'm actually jumping for joy with a mere honourable mention!" To which my friend laughed and said, "ya lor. what to do, it's either we have learnt to take things easy, or we simply don't care anymore..."
Talk about lowering standards!
... Talk about lowering standards!
