live earth is stupid.
yeah, i'm saying that, even if i were to risk getting killed by music lovers out there. no, it's not that i don't appreciate the music or anything. in fact, i would like to thank whoever-organised-this-mega-entertainment-event, cos it's like free entertainment for the weekend to see some of our greatest artistes and hear some of the best music ever made in the past century.
but, don't ever sell something as "a campaign to raise the (bloody) awareness of climate issues", just for the sake of sounding politically correct. ya, sure, al gore can wax lyrical about how the concerts have specific but unannounced goals, but ultimately, if we, as individuals, do not even understand what the concerts are for (other than having epicurean pleasures), is it even meaningful to say that it has goals?
i mean, it's so freaking stupid. you're just organising some concert to entertain the masses. i see people flailing their arms and shouting their lungs out during the concerts, i see bands playing their hearts out, but i see nothing being done to the environment, to address the issues the concerts have presumably set out to resolve. it seems as though it is a massive event to provide publicity for the artistes, some excuse to make loads of noise (according to ongzy) and have fun.
roger daltrey said, "Bollocks to that! The last thing the planet needs is a rock concert. I can't believe it. Let's burn even more fuel. We have problems with global warming, but the questions and the answers are so huge I don't know what a rock concert's ever going to do to help. Everybody on this planet at the moment, unless they are living in the deepest rainforest in Brazil, knows about climate change. My answer is to burn all the f*cking oil as quick as possible and then the politicians will have to find a solution." echoing that, i think it's gullible to assume that a rock concert (or a few of them) can change the way people live. artistes aren't even your religious leaders. their words don't constitute doctrine. then, why should i listen? just because i appreciate your music? i get to enjoy free music - that's all i'm concerned with. so what if the temperature's rising? as long as i can get enough of my air-conditioning, i don't have to care about what you say about the environment. it changes nothing in my life. such is the short-sightedness of most humans.
there's way more things to be done, and yet, we are directing our limited resources and little energy to something that does no work at all. sigh... when will people realise the stupidity and redundancy of such concerts? maybe when the earth's so hot, that all our drummers, vocalists, keyboardists and guitarists die, that all our musical instruments reduce to a puddle of boiling lead and plastic. those silly, naive kids will then realise that their little rock concerts did nothing to stop all that...
