hmm. ytd's leap was quite ok leh. in fact, it was quite fun! you all should have gone... :/
well, i hope everyone is getting into mug mode... maybe you all are already starting to prep, that's why the blog is so quiet nowadays... :P
hmm. i have been thinking quite a lot about the true nature of success for the past few days, after reading tharman's statements in an interview. i suppose most of us already understand this fact, but really, must we simply accept things as they are right now? he said that the reason why singapore's top brains can never match up to america's geniuses is that "they are a talent meritocracy and we are an exam meritocracy". perhaps my recent performance had a part to play in making me think about success and how to achieve it :/ really, are we just gonna go and mug real hard for a levels, get a scholarship and a diamond rice bowl and live in the lap of luxury for the rest of our lives? seriously, i can't stand it.
the most successful people (in terms of wealth) probably didn't even make it through university. bill gates is a classic example (perhaps "dropout from harvard" was a pretty good selling point, considering the fact that he even managed to get into harvard... ok, just joking :P). i think attitude is a more significant factor. so what if we don't get a for all our subjects? people in singapore think that a degree saves us time and trouble by letting us enter the corporate hierachy at a higher rung. but does this early entry mean quick promotions and eventual success?
i'm not trying to say that we shouldn't study hard and try to get some sort of sponsorship to bring us through tertiary education. but then, it is also necessary to reflect on the type of person we wanna turn out to be. so many people receive scholarships but how many actually gain success and satisfaction? so many people receive awards of all sorts but how many actually have that elusive "right attitude"?
last thought i have in mind: cherish everyone around you, no matter how strong your bond is with the person... you never know what might happen next. thanks to the people who made me "re-realise" the meaning of this...
studying brings into mind ocktober fest: mug for promos and choke yourself with booze after that :P oh well, these are your regular random ramblings from yours truly... ciao...
