On almost everything blogged before
ok i dun think i missed out much (this is yunsong btw). but anyway i wanna see cheryl's blogskin, so quickie nickie someone do something.
got a suggestion anyway, about how we organise the archive thingy. can we do it month by month not like post by post. cos we all got different styles of writing yeah, then i dun think it looks very nice to see all the titles of each blog, looks quite messy.
haha this feels like liangwei's personal shout-out space lah. "sian lor, only jez and i were at combined assembly... ... ... and some of us (i.e. liangwei) felt so cheated, because there was no dance item put up by the 33rd council"
soon we'll be hearing about his underwear shopping spree at new urban male. "sian lor, had to go n.u.m. by myself to shop for underwear. ys and wk came, like, AFTER i finished shopping... ... ... ... and some of us (i.e. liangwei) felt so cheated, because there was no kinky underwear in stock like chengyi promised."
haha liangwei, dun mean anything yeah, this is everyone's space, so blog all you like. but the rest must blog too. so liangwei can feel comfortable telling us about everything in his life =)
before you con't to read, the following section is in response to elmo's blog. you have been forewarned. if you didn't like what he/she wrote, dun read on, i wrote this in pure response to elmo, whose identity i have no idea. quite an irony, judging from what he/she wrote about. i would have thought it was impt to have an identity -- at least not one from sesame st.
anyway, in response to elmo, i've never thought much of online/electronic communication. as in i think we have to embrace it, but there's an unheimlich (german for 'unhomely') touch to it. thats to say there's a cold touch to it. its necessary in the sense that its efficient, and ideas spread fast, but i think it lacks the human touch thats almost essential to maintain relationships.
but thats not to say that what happens in real life is well more desirable than electronic communication. i think social life has also evolved, as an italian writer umberto eco has pointed out "social life is mere fiction".
i suppose social life has evolved because humans as a whole have changed. we have become janus-faced, we have a facade and an inner self. the facade is what we use to socialise in order to gain acceptance (some of us being more able to manipulate the facade than others, resulting in some of us being more sociable than others. i dun think anyone can be blamed for this), and the inner self is well, the inner self. Now, there exists a chasmic disjunction between the facade and the inner self, what some call the schizophrenia of postmodernity. some act like a total jerk, but might turn out to be nice pple; and perhaps on a darker note, vice versa.
haha well there are many implications for this, even in larger contexts than the ones you have concluded elmo. we no longer can know who we talk to in real life is the 'real' person. this is quite scary to me already. what might happen in the near future is this. what if computers one day can totally regenerate the human touch as i mentioned, like in the movie A.I. the robot was totally like a 'real' boy. can u actually fall in love with a robot? then what's the difference between u and a robot? i think thats the really scary thing -- totally reduced to a non-living thing.
as for elmo's clique problem, well the social landscape has evolved to include cliques. it's a problem, but as with all other social problems, you can work your butt off but you just can't get it away. when you speak of cliques as a prob, it's all about power relations now, which is very complicated. it's about the human need to have a hierarchy (or hegemony), in this case, a social ladder. some find it easier to be on the top, and they are the ones who decide the rules. play along with them or get down the ladder. welcome to the real world.
erm also welcome to looking at the human condition. haha obviously elmo was looking for intellectual engagement. so intellectual engagement elmo has.
gee this is a long one, well after all, it's on almost everything blogged before.
